Dow Jones Sustainability Indices

This year the BMW Group has regained its position as industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) World and Europe. The indices have been in existence for 15 years.

For all three of the areas under scrutiny - environment, business and social - the BMW Group scored better than average for the automotive industry. All in all it achieved 91 out of a possible 100 points. Last year the BMW Group came a close second after an eight-year run on the top spot. Competition for the position of industry leader is very tough: the top position is a clear indication to analysts, investors and other such stakeholders of just how important sustainability is within the company concerned.

"We are delighted to have succeeded in making it to the top of the DJSI again this year. Once more we have been able to demonstrate our leadership in sustainability among automotive producers" says Ursula Mathar, BMW Group Head of Sustainability and Environment, commenting on the result.

Each year no more than two or three automotive producers of about 25 OE Ms in all are listed in the World and/or Europe Indices. As in 2013, VW and Fiat also appeared in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World, scoring 88 and 87 points respectively. VW is listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe as well, along with the BMW Group.

This year the DJSI World celebrates its fifteenth anniversary. Launched in 1999, it was the first global stock index to evaluate companies not only by their business performance but also by environmental and social criteria. The BMW Group is the only automotive producer to have appeared in every DJSI World and Europe there has been.
